What a great 5 gig weekend we had last week starting off at The Hanover on Friday night playing to a big crowd that were up dancing on the tables and chairs from the off, its always a good one at this venue. Next day saw us playing as a 3 piece due to Andys work commitments at The Bankhouse festival in Pudsey playing to a good crowd that were enjoying their music in the sunshine. Big thanks to the sound and stage crew that were doing a very professional job to and kept everything running smoothly. After a short 45 minute set the gear was loaded up and we were heading to play Churfest 2011. We knew it was going to be busy due to the fact that the traffic was at a standstill on Churwell Hill and we were’nt dissapointed when we got there to find queues waiting to get in and a massive crowd inside. This was another event where all the sound stage crew and organisers were doing a brilliant job making it an easy set up for us and bang on 4.45 we were on. With Howard on absolutely top form we belted through another 45 minute set that was that brought a fantastic reception and great comments from the huge crowd. Thanks to The Churfest organisers for inviting us to brilliant Festival.
After half an hours recuperation and Andy back from work duties we were off again heading to The Hop in Leeds situated at Granary Wharf. This was the first time we had played there and reports that we would be playing upstairs on a minstrel gallery brought some doubts about the gig but we neednt have worried. This place has a totally unique atmosphere and despite having a catacombed roof the sound was outstanding playing through the in house pa with a sound engineer that absolutely nailed it and deserved all the praise that we gave him. It was good to over hear a conversation where they said they would gladly have paid £10.00 each to get in. Another 2 couples that had been having a quiet meal at the top of the luxury appartments that are situated next to the Hop had heard us begin the gig jumped in the lift to find where the music was coming from and thoroughly enjoyed the evening after find us at The Hop, thanks for your great comments. A noise curfew meant that we had to be off earlier than we would have liked but never the less this was a top gig.
The following day we were at another new Venue playing at The Victory Bar in The Village Hotel, A reasonable crowd for a Sunday turned up including some that had seen us for the first time the day before at Churfest and thought the they would check out the full set. Another 3 hour gig with plenty of table dancing and the usual Styckleback mayhem concluded a busy but very enjoyable weekend
